Costa Tropical trumpets big July jazz festival

THE 18TH edition of the Costa Tropical’s International Jazz Festival will be held in Almuñecar between July 18 and 23.
This year’s event will be focusing on the contribution of women to the jazz genre.
The event was announced by Culture councillor, Jose Torrente, together with the Institutional Relations councillor, Maria del Mar Medina, who also said that the festival would honour the Brazilian pianist, singer and songwriter Eliane Elias with the Almuñecar City Medal, first woman to receive this prestigious title.
Ms Elias will present her last album titled Made in Brazil (Blue Note) in the town on July 18.
The event is being organised by the Granada Provincial Council and the Almuñecar Council, with a total cost of €160,000.
“We can be proud of the event Jazz en la Costa as it is one of the most important jazz festivals in the south of Europe,” said Ms Medina.
Other artists such as Grammy-winning composer Terri Lyne Carrington, Till Brönner, Robert Glasper, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Irvin Mayfield Jr and Marcus Miller will participate in the event.
