THE Almeria Diputacion has joined the Amigos del Calar Alto association in promoting the Los Filabres Astronomy programme. A principal feature is the Second Los Filabres Astro-tourism project on May 29 and 30.
The two-day Jornadas includes visits to Gergal’s Astrophysis and the Environmental Interpretive Centre – a modern museum – and the renowned Calar Alto observatory to observe the night sky.A conducted tour of the 13th century Bacares castle and a visit to the Tetica de Bacares are also on the agenda.
“Almeria residents should be encouraged to learn more about the Calar Alto observatory near Gergal,” said Maria Vazquez who heads the Diputacion’s Culture department. “Amigos del Calar Alto deserve all possible institutional backing,” Vazquez added, as the association’s sole object is promoting the province from the point of view of astronomy and tourism.“Calar Alto is a landmark. Many people know about it and have visited the observatory but many have not and it should be promoted,” Vazquez declared.
