NINE people have died and another 18 have been injured in a shootout between biker gangs in Waco, Texas.
The fight broke out yesterday, Sunday 17, between two rival gangs at Twin Peaks restaurant and spilled out into a car park, local police sources reported.
The shopping centre where the restaurant is located has been closed by the police, and locals are being warned to stay away from the area for security reasons as police fear more violent gang members could head for the scene.
Waco Police Sergeant Patrick Swanton told the local press that the inside of the restaurant was littered with bullet casings, knives, bodies and blood.
“This is probably one of the most gruesome crime scenes I’ve ever seen in my 34 years of law enforcement,” Swanton said.
“I was amazed that we didn’t have innocent civilians killed or injured.
“This is not something we’re playing around with. This is a major crime scene… It is a pretty gruesome scene.”
Authorities had reportedly been aware for some time that trouble could be brewing between the rival biker gangs.
