A FIRE sparked in La Herradura on Sunday (May 3) has destroyed almost three hectares in the town’s mountains.
The blaze started at around 3.30pm in the Los Corrales district, where a resident was carrying out a controlled bonfire, which extended quickly to the west, in the north area of the San Nicolas residential complex.
The light breeze, the dry nature of the land and high temperature made it possible for the flames to change direction, moving north east and reaching the garden of an empty cottage.
The fire brigade, Local Police and Guardia Civil counted on the help of the Civil Protection volunteer group of Almuñecar.
At around 7pm the fire was finally put out and no one was hurt during the firefighting efforts.
