NATIONAL POLICE in Motril have arrested a 28-year-old lottery vendor for making an alleged false report of lottery ticket theft.
The man, who has a previous criminal record, reported to local police that three men had approached him while on his way to work, pretending to be customers.
The vendor claimed that one of the men slapped him on his face while another man pulled out a knife and threatened him, demanding he hand over the 500 tickets he was carrying, valued at approximately €950. He said the three muggers fled the scene afterwards.
Authorities began an investigation and reported that they had enough evidence to believe that the man had in fact lost his wallet with €350 from previous sales and the tickets, after leaving them on top of his vehicle, and could not afford to pay them back.
The man has been taken into custody and is awaiting trial.
