Sentence confirmed for karate-kicking mother

A ONE-year jail sentence has been confirmed for a mother who kicked her daughter’s doctor after disagreeing with the treatment prescribed.
Although the mother appealed the original sentence, which also ordered a €180 fine and €400 in damages for the victim, a Malaga Provincial Court has now confirmed it.
The incident occurred in August 2005 when the woman took her young daughter to the Materno Infantil hospital’s emergency department after the girl fell ill.
Disagreeing with the diagnosis and treatment given, the woman threatened the doctor before karate-kicking her thigh, resulting in extensive bruising that took more than a week to heal.
