LA DORADA, a full-scale replica of the ‘Chanquete’ fishing boat featured in the popular 1981 TV series Verano Azul shot in Nerja, is to become a tourism information point.
The town council announced that an agreement would be signed with the Nerja Caves Foundation to transfer ownership of the replica and improve connections between the town and the Nerja Caves and Museum.
“This popular Nerja attraction will serve as a stop for a tourist train, which will facilitate the transfer from the ‘Verano Azul’ Park, where the boat is located, to the museum and the Nerja Caves, allowing for visitors to enjoy a longer visit,” said head of the foundation, Jorge Hernandez Mollar.
He added that the initiative was expected to increase visits to Nerja’s Old Town and the museum.
“Users will be able to get on the train as many times as they wish during a day, so that they have the chance to visit all the different points of interest, as well as a stop in Maro,” said a government representative.
The train is expected to have an audio-guide service which will inform passengers of sites and places of interest along the way, from the El Aguila aqueduct, the Natural Park of Sierras de Tejeda, Alhama and Almijara, the Nuestra Señora de las Angustias chapel to the Museum and Nerja Caves.
