Tikar Wine Shop for lots of tours and tastings

HOTEL TIKAR: Visit their wine shop and also try some wine tasting.

A WALK among the vineyards. Wine tasting in a local bodega. Watching traditional ceramics appear before your eyes. A tour of an olive oil factory or Spanish ham – jamon serrano – curing house.

These are some of the day trips Sean from the Hotel Tikar has been organising over the past couple of years with their wine shop. The aim has been to create wine oriented tastings and tours for people interested in wines, but not neccesarily connoisseurs.

A typical itinerary starts in an olive oil mill or ceramics factory with a visit and samples. Followed by a stop at a local winery, often in the Alpujarras. In the bodega the winemaker hosts a tour explaining the wine making process and a tasting of several of their different wines.

After the bodega, a traditional lunch is enjoyed in a nearby meson. The excursions are all inclusive with coach transportation, tours, tastings and lunch included.

“These trips are lots of fun. It is a great way to see parts of Almeria that perhaps you have not seen, try some good local wines and have a fantastic day out. Many of the people who have gone with us repeat several times because of the good nature of these journeys. For years now we have been trying to support Almeria’s small family run businesses, not unlike ourselves.”

The Tikar also holds wine tastings in their garden. These are hosted by bodegas that often come from the north of Spain: Rioja, Rueda, Ribera del Duero, etc. They send a representative that will discuss the winery and regions as they cater for a tasting of their wines. These are light-hearted, fun, social events to expand wine knowledge especially for the casual drinker.

“We have been very fortunate with many high quality well known bodegas coming here to share their wines with us.

“It is a wonderful way to learn about Spanish wines and wine making techniques.”

Upcoming wine tour dates include May 11, 18 and 25 and June 8 and 22.

Wine tastings and tours are announced on www.hoteltikar.com and Hotel Tikar’s Facebook page.
