Snakes in Denia

A NUMBER of snakes have moved into the residential area of Les Roques in Denia.

Locals believe the reptiles have made nests in the grounds of a number of abandoned homes in the area and are merely seeking refuge from the heat – one resident found a large snake inside his bedroom and immediately called Seprona for advice. It was eventually removed by an animal rescue centre.

The snakes, though scary, are actually harmless of the non-poisonous Hemorrhois Hippocrepis species commonly called the ‘Horseshoe Whip Snake,’ although residents are advised not to attempt to catch or handle any snake.
