A PROJECT to create 60 kilometres of bike paths in the Marbella area has finally been sent to the Junta de Andalucia regional government for approval.

Following seemingly endless problems and misunderstandings, including the Junta forgetting to include the city in the Andalucia Bike Plan and the council later needing six months to get its paperwork in order, the project has now been sent off and should be signed shortly.

Citizen groups have been working and fighting for this project for many years, stressing that cycling tourism would open up a new opportunity for the busy tourist destination.

Once approved, the project will provide bike paths between Cabopino and Guadalmina, 75 per cent of which will be financed by the Junta.
