Deceased soldier’s mother cries for justice

THE family of Corporal Francisco Javier Soria, a soldier who died in Lebanon in January, has asked the Spanish Audiencia Nacional (national high court) to investigate and find justice for the deceased.

The soldier’s mother, Margarita Toledo, told Efe news agency that the family had made the decision after Foreign Affairs Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo declared that his death was unintentional and caused by errors.

“We want Israel to face a judge,” said Toledo, stressing that was she wanted to know who launched the bomb that killed her son, and that telling her it had been an error or due to miscalculations was not enough.

The deceased’s mother insisted that the family was not looking for compensation and said: “We don’t want money from Israel or anywhere else, just justice and that the person responsible is charged.”

Toledo said that her son hadn’t been at war when he died, he had been carrying out humanitarian work and supposedly protected by United Nations, and therefore the family could not understand why Israel had started shooting and then claimed miscalculations.

“I don’t understand about bombs, but I’ll do whatever I have to and have a clear conscience knowing I’ve fought for justice,” the distressed mother said.
