A LIMITED edition of Goya prints acquired by a previous Carboneras Town Hall has apparently disappeared without trace.
‘The Disasters of War’ were ordered from the publishing firm Planeta in 2009 at a cost of €3,250 to be paid in 62 installments of €124 each.
Nobody now knows where the prints are or remembers having seen them and there is no record that they were ever registered in the Municipal Library inventory.
The current town hall has now asked Planeta to certify who actually took delivery of the prints. The purchase order was signed by the previous mayor, according to town hall sources, and was accompanied by the culture department official stamp.
“We wrote weeks ago to Planeta but are still waiting for a reply,” said Felipe Cayuela, councillor responsible for finance.
No steps have been taken to start legal proceedings as the town hall wants to tie up all loose ends before involving the police or the courts, insiders explained.
