Power cut spoils Sunday takings

A SEVEN-HOUR power cut in Almeria City last weekend was the last straw for bar, restaurant and hotel owners’ association ASHAL.

When extensive work was carried out over wide area on a similar occasion in the past, Endesa had staggered this so that no district was without electricity for a long period of time, ASHAL recalled.

This time the news that the El Zapillo area and the Paseo Maritimo would be without electricity between 8am and 3pm was sprung on bar and restaurant owners with only two days’ notice. 

“We tried to contact Endesa for more information but no-one could tell us anything,” ASHAL lamented.

“This was a non-working day with good weather and sunshine, encouraging a lot of people to go out. Endesa should understand that the many small businesses do most of their trade at the weekend.”
