THE contract for the construction of Velez-Malaga’s new museum has been awarded to the company Alabaida Infraestructuras SA.
The total cost will amount to €908,386, €300,000 less than the original bidding price, which was around €1.2 million.
Mayor Francisco Delgado Bonilla explained that the new museum would be located in the former Hospital San Juan de Dios and was expected to be completed by the end of the present year.
“The chosen company has committed to reduce the period of completion, which had been estimated at 11 months,” said the mayor. “These new museum facilities have been designed to foster and promote our historic town centre.”
He added that the museum would be home to 1,700 items from the town’s history including archaeological remains, documents, photographs belonging to private collections, as well as the municipal archive of Malaga.
