Compensation claim got ministry’s goat

A MOTORCYCLIST who crashed into a goat on the Almeria City ring road will receive €49,900 compensation.

“I was doing around 90 kilometres an hour when two enormous goats, each weighing around 100 kilos, jumped out from the central reservation,” said Jose Manuel afterwards. “I avoided the first one but all I remember about the second was seeing its back and falling.”

He suffered serious road burns and bruising on his hands, arms, knees and back in an accident that the Madrid high court said was caused by ministry of Public Works negligence.

The ministry turned down Jose Manuel’s claim for compensation, but the courts found in his favour after investigations indicated that the wild goats reached the A7 through broken fencing, and not a slip road as the ministry insisted.
