Gib Deputy Chief Minister meets Brussels officials

THE Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia is in Brussels for a series of meetings and has met with the EU Commissioner for Migration and Border Management, Dimitris Avramopolous.

The primary topic of conversation was the expression of his concerns over the work being carried out on the Spanish side of the crossing and how it is adversely affecting the flow of traffic.

He also met with the MEP for Gibraltar, Ashley Fox, who has told a prominent EU politics magazine that the European Commission should begin legal proceedings against Spain over its disproportionate actions at the frontier.

In an opinion piece in the Parliament magazine, Ashley Fox MEP says it’s nearly two years since the border problems he describes as politically motivated began, and urges the Commission to begin legal action.

He accuses the European Commission of turning a “blind eye” to Spanish harassment of Gibraltar.
