A VERY special unit formed which uses dogs will help the Civil Protection team of Motril search and rescue people more efficiently.
Mayor of the town, Luisa Garcia Chamorro together with the Citizen Safety councillor, Manuel Ballesteros welcomed the new unit which includes three guides and three dogs, as well as a transport vehicle and other modern equipment.
The unit has been implemented to deal with emergency and rescue operations, as well as natural catastrophies.
“These dogs are capable of finding people buried in debris, after situations such as building collapses or in the case of earthquakes,” said the mayor.
The new team members are called Vera, a four-year-old female Labrador Retriever; Bubu a five-year-old Boxer-Labrador and Rex, a German Shepherd aged one-and-a-half.
The mayor of the town stressed that the dog’s guides are volunteers as are the rest of the Civil Protection members.
