VOLUNTEERS: Pitched in to save the day and get the throne out.
AFTER initial panic due to insufficient throne-bearers, volunteers came to the rescue allowing an Easter Sunday procession to go ahead in Alhaurin de la Torre.
Although the route for the Santisimo Cristo Resucitado procession had to be shortened, 30 volunteers bravely pitched in and took up places under the heavy throne, receiving enthusiastic applause from onlookers.
Following the Resurrection Mass, which coincidentally included seven christenings and a holy communion, the procession, lead by Mayor Joaquin Villanova and many local representatives, left the church to parade through the streets in an impressive and emotional, traditional event.
The day’s success was also down to the quality of the municipal band, directed by Alfonso Ortega, and the Nuestro Padre Jesus horn and drum band, locals and visitors later agreed.
