FRENCH air traffic control strikes are causing large numbers of cancellations and delays on flights to and from Spain.
France’s biggest air traffic controllers union, the SNCTA, has decided to strike on Wednesday and Thursday in a major dispute over working conditions. Short and medium distance flights across Europe and within France are expected to be the worst affected with hundreds of flights being cancelled. Many long-haul flights are expected to continue as planned.
Travellers flying from Spain to France or through French airspace are advised to contact their airline if they haven’t already been informed of the situation.
The SNCTA strike is focused on a planned change of regulations that will see air traffic controllers in France have their retirement age raised by two years to 59. If the argument is unresolved further strike action is possible between April 16-18 and April 29 – May 2.
