Barcelona raids pick up ten terrorism suspects

TEN suspected Jihadists were arrested this morning in sweeping operations by police in Barcelona in conjunction with an on-going initiative to dismantle cells in Catalonia.

According to Interior Minister Ramon Espadaler, ten people have been detained at the moment, but the number may increase as security forces conduct searches on more than a dozen homes in the Sabadell, Terrassa, Sant Quirze del Valles, Valls and Barcelona areas.

Some 360 officers took part in the operation organised by the Catalonian Police aimed at rooting out radical Islamist groupings in the Catalan neighbourhoods.

This action has been linked to the arrests of three Barcelona residents in Bulgaria last December while they attempted to reach Syria to join Jihadist forces.

Ramon Espadaler said at the time the Catalonian Police had evidence that at least 20 people living in Catalonia had travelled since 2013 to the Middle East with the same aim.
