Catral brotherhood president dies over Easter

THE funeral has taken place of the president of the brotherhood La Soledad in Catral.

Jose Maria Cabrera was taken to the Vega Baja Hospital after passing out during the Easter procession on Good Friday. He was then taken to the Vinalopo Hospital in Elche for heart surgery but suffered complications. Mayor of Catral, Pedro Zaplana, confirmed the 80-year-old died the following day in hospital.

Tributes have since flooded in for the man who was called the “embodiment of Easter in Catral.”
