Chess is best in Estepona

TWO new giant chessboards have been installed on the seafront in Estepona.

Unveiled by local Mayor Jose Maria Garcia Urbano and president of the Spanish Chess Association Francisco Javier Ochoa de Echaguen, these are the third and fourth 20-square-metre chess boards created in the town.

The mayor explained that the town has been encouraging local children to take up chess for the last three years and lessons are given at 14 schools in the area with 1,800 students taking part each year.

A tournament between school teams is planned for April 18 at Federico Garcia Lorca infant and primary school, with all 14 schools taking part.
