ALICANTE-ELCHE Airport earned €50 million last year before tax, the fifth best record in Spain and more profitable than Madrid’s Barajas airport.
The airport boasted of having its best year last year, exceeding 10 million passengers for the first time, which has shown in the bank balance and achieving an impressive turnaround considering that in 2012 it recorded losses of €2.43 million.
Barcelona recorded the most profit followed by Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife South and Gran Canaria.
Nationally, airport operating company Aena, which has been partially privatised this year, also showed solvency with pre-tax profits of €652 million, 20 per cent less than last year.
