MABS charity holds Spring Ball fundraiser in Benidorm

INCREDIBLE PRIZES: Let’s get bidding.

MABS is one of the leading charities in Spain dedicated to the support of all who are affected by cancer.

Founder and president, Jacqui Phillips MBE, understood the importance of a support network, particularly for those with no family in Spain, and set about her challenge.

Last year a brand new cancer support centre opened in La Cala, Benidorm – inaugurated by British Consul Paul Rodwell. Since then branch director Sue Reula has done an incredible job, aided by an army of 60 volunteers who help run the shop, collect donations and deliver equipment as well as a team of professional nursing and therapy staff who help run the adjoining care centre.
This year, they purchased a brand new van, used to deliver equipment such as beds and wheelchairs to aid patient care, as well as collecting and delivering bulky furniture donations for the charity shop – open on weekdays from 10am until 2pm and where they also hold a coffee morning every Wednesday.

But this all costs money to maintain, which spurred Sue to organise a Spring Ball, with the help of Maria Killer and Sheila Fearon, to raise much some needed funds. The event takes place on Saturday 25 April at the Marina Hotel in Benidorm and includes a welcome cocktail followed by a sumptuous, four-course meal with wine throughout, plus live entertainment by two of Benidorm´s top groups – Il Divo and Timeless.

A raffle with some incredible prizes such as a tablet computer, colour television and tickets for resort attractions, all donated by local businesses, will be held on the night. But three stars prizes will be auctioned – a signed Barcelona football team mascot, an authenticated blouse/memorabilia worn by Coronation Street character Michelle Conner, plus five signed Benidorm cast photos.
Bids are being taken now at the MABS shop or by Sue on 664 266 991. Ball tickets cost €37.50, available at the shop. Let’s get raising!
