FRENCH officials believe that one of the two pilots on the Germanwings flight that crashed on Tuesday in the French Alps was locked out of the cockpit at the time of impact.
According to a report released by French officials and published in the New York Times, sounds on the black box voice recorder suggest that one of the two pilots left the cockpit and then was unable to re-enter the cabin.
He was heard lightly knocking on the door, then trying to smash down the door before just before the plane hit the ground.
Officials still cannot explain why the pilot in the cockpit did not respond and did not open the door.
