THE Environment Department of Salobreña Council has launched a campaign to raise awareness on the importance of sterilising domestic pets.

The campaign, which has the support of the newly-created Animal Rights Protection Association of Salobreña (CIRAS) and other institutions, is also aimed at preventing the abandonment of dogs, cats and other animals, which have increased in recent times.

The initiative explains the advantages of sterilising all pets to avoid having to deal with unwanted pregnancies later.

The campaign involves local vets explaining all processes involved in the local radio, as well as creating informative posters, according to Head of the Department, Martin Valenzuela.

In addition, all owners who wish to sterilise their pets will have a discount of almost 70 per cent of the original cost.

To participate, owners who are registered in the town’s padron (census) will only have to visit a local vet clinic and fill in a form to be eligible.
