DIEGO COSTA has been forced to withdraw from the Spanish national team due to a hamstring injury received while playing for Chelsea against Hull City on Sunday.
This means that Costa, originally born in Brazil, will miss Spain’s Euro qualifying match against Ukraine on Friday and a friendly game against the Netherlands the following week. The injury was officially confirmed by Spanish medical staff in a statement released this morning.
Costa will return to Chelsea for medical treatment. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho stated that he was concerned about the player’s health.
Costa helped Chelsea to their 3-2 victory over Hull City on Sunday with a critical goal for the team. This is one of several hamstring injuries that 26-year-old Costa has received over the course of his professional career. The 21-year-old Juanmi Jimenez will replace Costa while he recovers.
