POLICE are keeping three phases of Almeria City’s La Vaguada urbanisation in the Villablanca area under surveillance.
Half of the properties there remain unsold and for three years have been targeted by squatters who now occupy 36 properties, La Vaguada homeowners complained.
Local Police officers now carry out intermittent patrols on the streets where the illegally occupied duplex properties are located.
The stepped-up police presence coincided with power and water cuts by Endesa and Aqualia to discourage the long-term squatters.
This is the second time that electricity and water supplies were cut off in the immediate area although both companies have ensured that legitimate occupants of two adjoining properties were not affected.
