GERMAN airline Lufthansa has announced that its pilots have decided to strike on Wednesday March 18, potentially affecting Lufthansa flights across Europe. The airline operates several routes into Spain.
The airline has said in the statement that long haul flights and flights operated by Germanwings, Eurowings, Air Dolomiti, Swiss, Brussels Airlines and Austrian Airlines will “remain largely unaffected.”
Short and medium haul flights across Europe might be cancelled or rescheduled. This strike, one of many that have recently affected the troubled airline, is due to pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) protesting about early retirement conditions.
Strikes have cost Lufthansa more than €200 million over the last 12 months.
