TRAGEDY struck Palma’s Oris Rally Clasico when a competitor died following a crash.
The accident took place at around 12.20pm on Saturday at kilometre five of the road section between Coves and Campanet when the vehicle, which was driven by Jose Carlos Iscar and co-piloted by the victim, Jose Lumbreras del Cabo, swerved violently off the road and crashed into a tree.
The car burst in flames, killing the co-driver on the spot.
The driver was taken to the Son Espases Hospital in Palma with severe burns to 10 per cent of his body. Fortunately, and according to a statement released by the hospital, his condition has stabilised.
