A FAST ferry which will take passengers from Motril to Melilla in two hours and 35 minutes has already become operational.
The ferry, which will also connect the Motril Port to Moroccan cities Nador and Alhucemas, has been baptised as Volcan de Tirajana.
“It is the fastest trip available at the moment from the peninsula, and offers a service of great quality and safety,” said Head of the Port Authorities of Motril, Francisco Alvarez de la Chica.
Trips to this destination which depart from Malaga and other points can last from three to four hours.
The new ferry was built in 2006 and has capacity for 900 passengers and 287 vehicles.
