RESIDENTS of Maro (Nerja) saw their telephone service interrupted on Sunday (March 8) due to the attempted theft of the town’s telephone transformer.
The incident occurred at around 9.30pm, and the companies responsible for the equipment alerted the Guardia Civil, explaining that it is the second time this has happened so far in 2015.
The first time, thieves were able to rip off the transformer and walk off with it, leaving the entire district of Maro without phone service.
“The thieves must have heard a noise and ran away because, even though they broke the transformer protection door and cut some cables, they did not take it with them. In addition, they forgot a jacket which is now in possession of the Guardia Civil,” said a representative of Vodafone the day after.
