PALMA will host the ‘261 Women’s Marathon’ on Sunday (March 8) with the participation of more than 1,000 women from 23 different countries.
Mayor Mateo Isern presented the event last Wednesday March 4, together with other council representatives and with the support of Kathrine Switzer, the first woman who ever ran a marathon in Boston in 1967, defying the ban imposed up to that day.
“Running is currently a trend worldwide, and an important tourist attraction,” said the mayor.
Ms Switzer encouraged all women of the Islands to participate in the events to commemorate Women’s Day.
The marathon will have its departure and finishing point at Parc de la Mar and will start at 9am.
