RESTORING Villa Marco in Campello continues to recreate the original beauty of the house and its gardens.

It was built by the wealthy Bardin family who arrived from France in the late 19th century and lived in Alicante City. Villa Marco in Campello’s Fabraquer district was their summer residence and is considered one of the finest examples of the Modernista style found in rural areas outside the city.

A total of €100,000 was recently spent on improving the villa’s perimeter walls, ironwork, masonry, conservatory and gardens. The original well has been repaired and its contents are now used to water the extensive gardens.

The mayor of Campello, Juanjo Berenguer, stressed the importance of preserving and maintaining Villa Marco.

Restoring two sculptures by Vicente Bañuls – ‘La Marseillaise’ and ‘La Noche’ – and a huge urn will be the next important tasks that are carried out, he said.
