AZZAM: Currently the world’s largest yacht.
IN an insight into the world and mindset of the stratospherically rich, the world’s biggest private yacht is scheduled to start being built at a cost of €1 billion and once completed, will dwarf a cruise ship.
Measuring in at 222 metres and boasting seven decks, two swimming pools, numerous hot tubs and a 275 square metre master suite, the ‘Triple Deuce’ will be 40 metres longer than ‘Azzam,’ owned by the President of the UAE and currently the world’s largest private yacht.
Not only is Triple Deuce worth €1 billion, it is expected operating costs each year will cost around €33 million. The identity of the owner is – no surprise – a closely guarded secret, but it has been revealed the client wants a yacht so big that nobody else will be able to make a bigger one.
“It’s just like the competition to build the world’s tallest building,” said Craig Timm of 4Yacht, the broker of the building project. “By building the yacht to 222 metres, the owner wants to make it difficult, if not impossible, to be ‘eclipsed’ himself.”
It’s reported Triple Deuce will have an owner’s suite covering two storeys across 275 square metres, with a private gym, office and dining room. It will have two staterooms, a helipad, spa facilities and employ a masseuse and hairdresser. Its top speed will be more than 30 knots powered by triple gas turbine engines of over 100,000 horsepower.
