THE Caminito del Rey (King’s Walkway) mountain trail near El Chorro, due to open at the end of March, has received 32,048 bookings in just one week.

More than 130,000 visits have been recorded by www.caminitodelrey.info, the only place where free visits to the trail, considered one of the most thrilling in the world, can be booked.

Although 94 per cent of bookings so far have come from people within Spain, visitors from the UK, Germany, Holland, the US, Denmark, France, Belgium, Portugal and Italy have also been booking visits, the Costa del Sol tourism board reported.

One of the reasons that it is mostly Spanish bookings is of course that we are in Spain. But a secondary and very important reason is the website for reserving asks for a DNI and foreigners (not living in Spain) dont know what that is… You can simply put your passport number in that box on the reservation form.

Full and proper instructions to get a reservation for the Caminito del Rey can be found at http://www.caminodelrey.es
