AN AGREEMENT has been signed by Velez-Malaga council and the town’s Association of Disabled People AMIVEL to create pay-and-display areas around the town.

Mayor Francisco Delgado Bonilla, together with other council representatives and Head of AMIVEL, Cristina Quintero, signed a contract which will implement the areas which have been conceived with a charitable spirit.

Mr Bonilla stressed business owners have been requesting the areas for more than two decades, and will allow for social integration of the members of AMIVEL, residents with disabilities who will be in charge of the service in the towns of Velez-Malaga and Torre del mar.

“The pay-and-display areas have not been created to collect more money, but to support the town’s disabled community. The Council will not receive any money from the service, but we thought it was time to implement it, with an aim to integrate people with disabilities and, at the same time, boost the traditional commerce, creating new opportunities for this industry”, the mayor said.

He has asked for the residents’ ‘understanding’ and explained that the council is studying a 50 per cent discount for neighbours of the area who, instead of having to pay €4 plus IVA per week, would only have to pay €2 plus IVA per week, and will be able to park their vehicles for a maximum period of two hours.

The restricted areas will cover Calle Paseo Nuevo, the car-park at the Mercado de Minoristas, the car-park at Plaza de San Antonio de Padua, Calle Canalejas, Calle Pozancon and Calle Reñidero.
