BENALMADENA is the international capital city of olive oil in March.

Once again, Puerto Marina is hosting Aovesol, the Costa del Sol’s Olive Oil fair, which was presented at the Fitur International Tourism Fair in Madrid.

More than 50 exhibitors, including the main oil mills and brands of Andalucia, are at the fair. Priego de Cordoba, Estepa, Baena, Sierra Magina and Sierra de Cazorla are just some of the area’s oil producers who have come to show off their wares.

Associations including the Spanish Olive Town Association (AEMO) and Olearum Association are also present.

Tourism and marina councillor Adolfo Fernandez explained that the event runs from March 5-8 and almost 15,000 visitors had registered at last year’s edition of the fair.

Organised by Benalmadena Town Hall with collaboration from Sabor a Malaga, the fair is a four-day celebration with activities based on the culture of olives and oil.

Cooking shows will promote the health benefits of extra virgin olive oil with well-known, prestigious chefs taking part, and workshops, oil tasting, talks and children’s games are also planned.

Oil tourism also has its mention, with presentations and speeches on the opportunities Andalucia oil mills offer to generate income and to spread the culture of Liquid Gold.
