PRESSURE group Salvem Portocolom are to launch protests against the privatisation of the Felanitx lighthouse and its potential transformation into a hotel.
“We were able to confirm that the Balearics Port Authorities want to privatise up to six lighthouses on the islands: Cap Blanc (Llucmajor), Ciutadella, Barbaria and la Mola (Formentera), Soller and Portocolom. They could soon become hotels,” said representatives of the group.
The councils involved have either already given green lights to the projects, or are currently studying them, the group says.
“The lighthouse is not just a building to light up during the nights and guide boats. It is a symbol, it is architectural, cultural and natural heritage, and it has 152 years of history. The lighthouse is public, it is ours and we cannot give it away to the first company that requests it,” said the group.
