PROFESSIONAL cycling teams and enthusiastic amateurs are a common sight in Calpe each winter.
There are also growing numbers of mountain bikers meeting the challenges posed by the rugged Sierra de Olta adjoining the town.
Calpe has now asked to be included in the nearby Vall del Pop’s all-terrain BTT cycling circuit, incorporating the town’s cycle routes and forest paths.
“We want Calpe to be a leader in sports tourism,” said Mayor Cesar Sanchez. “We must use all our resources to boost the local economy, bearing in mind that tourism creates most jobs.”
