THE regional government has been asked to provide a summer health centre for Javea.
The resort’s population triples in the summer and the situation was further complicated last year as no extra medical staff were assigned to the town and holiday absences were not covered, said Javea’s mayor Jose Chulvi.
As a result, waiting lists lengthened and the emergency department was inundated with patients, he added.
To avoid a repetition, Chulvi has asked the Generalitat regional government and the concessionary that provides the Marina Alta’s outsourced health care to take this into account when planning holidays and substitutions. He has also reminded the bodies concerned of their promise to provide a summer health centre in the Arenal area should the town hall request it.
