Mijas renames path to honour writer

MIJAS has renamed a walkway by the La Muralla park in the village in honour of Malaga author Jose Manuel Garcia Marin, a popular Spanish language, historical novelist.

Named Reina de las Dos Lunas (Queen of the Two Moons) after a novel by the author that tells the story of a Mijas fisherman imprisoned by Turks and taken to Fez as a slave, the walkway serves to honour the memory of the writer, who died last September.

Visiting the site with Garcia Marin’s widow, Mercedes de la Cruz, Mayor Angel Nozal said: “This is an idyllic place and we thought it was a great idea to name parts of Mijas in honour of great writers and literature. Those of us who are readers must be grateful for the opportunities of adventures writers offer us.”
