A NEW role awaits the area just behind Villajoyosa.
For more than a year Villajoyosa Town Council has been deliberating how best to complement the town’s economic and tourist development. It has now come up with the idea of capitalising on a ready-made tourist attraction, the area around the Amadorio reservoir.
The dam is closer to the sea than any other in Europe; it is situated in a zone of remarkable natural wealth with sports facilities literally next door in the town.
These three factors make it an ideal location for sporting, adventure and environmental activities, said the sports department at Villajoyosa Town Hall.
New life will be injected into the surrounding area with multi-adventure cultural and leisure opportunities for all ages, with the accent on environmental and sports tourism. The reservoir itself will come into its own with boat trips and cable-skiing as well as other boating facilities.
The project will create jobs but would not involve sizeable construction, the town hall said. Any building that might be needed would be in line with environmental require-ments and respectful of the existing ecosystem, it stressed.
