BRITISH and Irish expats and holidaymakers in Spain should have no trouble finding themselves a date for this Valentine’s weekend if a recent poll is anything to go by.
The British accent has been voted the sexiest accent in the world according to Time Out’s Global Dating Survey, and the famous Irish lilt has been named third sexiest in a poll of 11,000 people’s favourite accents. French, known globally as the ‘language of love’, doesn’t strike the chord it used to with respondents, coming in fifth. Second place went to America and fourth to Australia.
The British accent was chosen by 27.7 per cent of those polled as the sexiest accent on the planet. And any Brits hoping to use their vocal charms to meet a partner this weekend might want to intersperse their chat-up lines with a smattering of Spanish, which has just been revealed as the happiest language in a recent study.
Researchers at the University of Vermont – collating data from books, movies, social media, website and television – have found that Spanish uses the most happy words.
So any Brits, Americans or Irish looking for love in Spain this Valentine’s Day would be well advised to play up to their naturally sexy charms and keep the conversation flowing.
