AN easyJet plane at Gibraltar airport was evacuated and the border with Spain temporarily closed after a bomb scare today (Sunday, February 8).
The 156 passengers and six crew were ordered off the plane as the Gatwick bound flight waited on the runway after a suspect package was found and a ‘strange smell’ was detected in the hold.
The airport was closed while explosives experts examined the plane. As a precaution the border was closed and nearby businesses shut their doors.
One flight was diverted to Malaga as investigations continued this morning. The all clear has since been given and the airport reopened, with flights expected to get back to normal quickly.
