Mallorca to fund jobs for long-term unemployed

THE Mallorca Regional Government is to fund the creation of jobs for 3,300 unemployed residents.

The project, called Programme for Labour Reinsertion, will benefit long-term unemployed people over 45 years of age.

Plans were unveiled at a press conference by the spokesperson of the autonomous government, Nuria Riera, who explained that the programme is co-funded by the European Social Fund.

The regional government will contribute €4 million per year between 2015 and 2017.

Local entities that participate in the project will hire candidates according to their needs and for a maximum period of six months.

To be eligible for the programme, those interested must be over 45 years old and have been unemployed for two years, although candidates will still be eligible if they have worked in temporary jobs within the two-year period, if those did not surpass 90 days.

In addition, they must have used up all their government aid and have an income lower than €426.

The programme is to give local institutions €600 per contract of six months’ of duration.
