Plain-clothes police catch dog dirt offenders in Inca, Mallorca

THOUGHTLESS dog owners in Inca, Mallorca, have been warned – undercover police are on their tails.

Twenty-one fines have been issued to people in the town who failed to clean up their pets’ mess since a plain-clothes poo patrol went on the beat back in October.

Inca’s mayor, Rafael Torres, unveiled the results of the initiative, carried out by Local Police, and said that the patrol would continue to work indefinitely monitoring the streets for dog dirt and issuing fines that could be as high as €900.

“This is one of the issues we at the council receive most complaints about,” said Mr Torres. “This uncivil behavior casts a negative light on the city and the council is forced to spend more on cleaning work, which is a financial extra, paid by all residents.”

Officers have focused their efforts on the area around the municipal slaughterhouse, the Camino Viejo de Biniamar and in the vicinity of Puig de Santa Magdalena, where 10 residents have been fined since October.
