Crematorium Bon Sosec |
THE four crematoriums of Son Valenti and Bon Sosec in Palma have reached their maximum capacity due to the large number of deaths that occurred in the past few days.
The average number of deaths ranges between eight and nine per day, while last weekend the number was over 20.
Facing this unusual situation, funeral directors have been forced to take exceptional measures, such as opening the crematoriums during the afternoons and weekends.
Appointments for cremations are being given for a period 72 hours in advance, while the average ranges between 24 and 48 hours, depending on paperwork.
One funeral director, Irene San Gil, assured that the sector was completely prepared to face the high demand, and explained that the situation was usual at this time of the year, as the cold temperatures contributed to the increase in the death rate.
