A VALENCIAN company has produced a biodegradable television remote control.

The device has been created with the hotel and hospital market in mind, as remotes are known to be a breeding ground for bacteria. The idea behind the new invention is that every hospital patient or hotel guest can be issued the remote control for the duration of their stay and it is then disposed of as they leave, offering a more hygienic option for television viewing.

They are already being used on a trial basis by the Barcelo hotel chain in the Balearic Islands, and have been offered free of charge to a number of hospitals to sample.

They were unveiled at the FITUR international tourism fair in Madrid and presented to the hotel sector in the hope they will see the advantages of the disposable, biodegradable remote controls.
