STRONG winds and rain storms caused heavy damage around the Costa Tropical during the past weekend, notably affecting Salobreña.
Waves of up to five metres and winds of more than 70 kilometres per hour caused destruction along Salobreña’s promenade, and the local council says repairing the damage is beyond its financial reach.
The worst affected areas have been the promenade in the area of Salomar 2000 Residential Complex, where pavements and walkways to access the beach have been completely destroyed. The water has fully invaded beaches at some stretches, making the sand disappear completely.
Mayor of the town, Gonzalo Fernandez, has requested aid from the central government to fund the renovation works whose budget is still being calculated.
